As a friend just put it as I asked them, reflecting my thoughts, you strut because you've got it, and you swagger when you want it. Plus, a swagger raises the ire and causes confusion of those watching, while a strut does not.
Is there a difference? Or is a swagger just a version of a strut? It's odd to me that "strut" seems (at least to me) to have a more negative, "cocky" or "arrogant" connotation, where "swagger" has a more "cool" connotation; yet Cody is arguing that strut > swagger. This makes me want to analyze people's walks, and have my own walk analyzed! Cool thought.
Personally, I think I have a strut. When I envision "swagger," I think back to that really crappy American Idol audition where the dude sang "Pants on the Ground." That dude was talking about those who think they have "SWAG." When I envision a strut, I think of somebody who has confidence. Maybe a little cocky, but mostly with confidence. But to me, this all relates back to how people carry themselves. I know I may seem conceited, but I have been told that I walk and carry myself with sense of confidence (but I get timid around the ladies, ya know). I find that you get a vibe (or maybe a positive impression?) from people with confidence, and a negative opinion of those who are shy.
Sam and I actually talked a little about this once. Interesting to find this on our blogosphere.
