Math is an odd subject. It's hard to be creative when analysing maths, but you can analyse a text in English rather well. Anything "new" in math is too complex for the scope of a college-entry-level paper. Also, math is subject to different rules on word count, etc. I think that if you are dedicated enough to want to write about math, you can write a good essay on math! (though I agree IB does set you up to do English for an EE)
