I saw a lady driving yesterday that was signing to a girl in the seat next to her - how do you deal with things like being deaf in circumstances that don't particularly allow it? And is it right to drive while signing, because it is rather dangerous, but it's not as if one is going to sit there and say (sign) nothing to the other person because there is no music to fill that space. Is this right or wrong? I found it rather debateable myself :D
I have also thought about this. I would argue that people that aren't deaf drive with one hand so if the person signing doesn't look at the person they are signing to there isn't much different. And, people text while driving so if the person who was not driving texted the person that was driving and they read it it might not be that different there either. But, even if they weren't texting them the driver looking away to see and then quickly looking back at the road, and repeating this process, is similar to looking down at your phone. Also, if the other person was in the back seat the driver could watch them sign by looking in the rear view mirror. Also, some vehicles, I know newer vans do, have lights in the side mirrors that light up and can make noise (but obviously if they were deaf that wouldn't be helpful to the driver but it could let others warn the driver if they heard) when there is something in your blind spots. But it would be an interesting court case or attempted ban.
