I am currently watching this show where the human techonology breaks down - no electricity, no cars, etc. And they have to revert back to times when they had to create their own food by growing it, and having animals. It makes me wonder what would happen if we were thrown into that situation - could we survive? Do we know enough? Would government (federal) matter at this point?
Many would panic and perish, the wise would learn to adapt and start over. We would revamp the system and make it better.
ReplyDeleteA book I read over the summer had a similar subplot, in which a sort of technological Armageddon was released upon humans, but they rebounded within a couple of years based on their own knowledge, but the new system eliminated all the problems inherent in the old one (eg, pollution, unnatural foods). Quite a disturbing yet simultaneously inspiring thought.
Revolution? I like that show. Anyway, I agree with Cody. Many would "panic and perish" just like in the show. It seems that there wasn't as big a population after the blackout as there was before. So people could have died from hunger, or were killed, or any number of things. It is interesting to note though that in the show, even though the governments fell, that militias rose up and someone took over. I feel like that would happen in anytime or place if something as startling as a complete blackout occurred. If something of this magnitude happened, I think the all life on earth would adapt and try to use things from the past to begin again. Part of what makes earth fascinating is that life evolves and things would just start over. But seriously though, how the heck could all the power go off? I want the show to explain more.
