Searching for EE stuff

Why is it so hard for people to write about math in simple terms? Those of us who are trying to learn it, simply can't because we have to go through every step before we can understand it - i bet there is an easier way to do so. Math people just don't know how to dumb it down, or write it out fully.

  1. Math is a subject that builds upon itself, and often requires a full explanation of all preceding concepts to fully grasp a new one. Math can be simplified, if real-life examples are given. However, there comes a certain point at which those who don't desire to embrace math won't understand the more abstract concepts. You can't explain (insert cutting-edge conceptual math theory) in terms of two trains leaving a station or apples and oranges. Actually, if you're a good teacher, you can.

  2. Karli, I think that's why I've had so much trouble with math throughout my life. I need to understand the big picture, practical applications, metaphors, etc. I agree with your last comment, Cody. The brilliant physicist/professor Richard Feynman once said that he knew he didn't truly understand something if he couldn't easily explain the concept to his first year students.

    1. I actually saw an online video of Feynman ranting about how he can't explain gravity itself without explaining everything that goes to make gravity possible, and everything that makes THOSE things possible, etc. etc. ad nauseam. Nevertheless, he did manage to explain it in layman's terms, and I respect him for how he taught that way.
