When did it ever become a tradition for little children to go door to door getting candy? (Reminds of cars driving by offering candy, not to be creepy . . .) Why do we come up with such weird traditions? What's its purpose in everyday life?
I know that Halloween's "spookiness" was developed with the purpose of scaring away evil spirits before All Saint's Day (Nov 1). The trick-or-treating concept is somewhat odd, and is somewhat like Christmas presents: to keep children interested.
