Procrastination: Why?

Why is it we procrastinate, if simply to stare at the ceiling or listen to music for an hour, suddenly realizing we have almost no time left for things we should do?

  1. For simply the task does not create stimulus in our minds to have a strong want to do so. Procrastination I must say is a great pastime, but I feel like we only procrastinate on things we either do not want to finish, do not enjoy, or something forced upon us.

Also the reason for the pointless procrastination is well personally, when I procrastinate I tell myself oh it will only be a few minutes or subconsciously think the same. In reality the time I took procrastinating could have been spent procrastinating on the work at hand with much more avail to the other tasks I have to do in life. So overall in response to your question, we do not procrastinate to do nothing, we procrastinate to avoid something, in that avoidance we do not care the means to which we are avoiding. In those means we sometimes do not aspire to accomplish other goals in life that we would much rather be doing. (For the fact we sometimes forget about things) In essence we stare at the ceiling as a way to in the moment not feel like we are doing anything substantial that will be taking large sums of time away from other tasks until it builds to an hour. And then suddenly we realize that we don't have time to do things, unless of course we do not sleep.

P.S. Apologies for anything that did not make sense, I proof read but by this time I don't trust myself.

  2. I have procrastinated like nuts on the EE. I find myself procrastinating for many of the same reasons as Jeff has stated. However, I find myself procrastinating in a different way. I will go work on some other chore, and make it take as long as I possibly can. I'll get distracted by social networking sites as well. It is actually kind of ridiculous. We procrastinate to delay the inevitable, probably.
