Football
While observing the football players for my ethnography, it made me wonder how the first stereotype began. The one player i talked to wanted to be a graphic engineer couldn't believer and was currently in IB Math. While I do know the stereotype, and I do kinda believe it, I didn't realize that stereotypes had been amplified to strongly. It is also true that the reason stereotypes appear is because it tends to be the majority, though not the entire group. There are exceptions. And i find i'm actually an extreme extrovert and i can't wait to go back tomorrow.

What, you never knew you were extroverted? I suppose looking at others makes you see yourself better.
ReplyDeleteI am aware that high school sports players, especially nowadays, are not nearly as dumb as they are portrayed; many are National Honor Society Members.
Another interesting thought is the reverse stereotype: people who may conform to a particular archetype but don't appear to.
I definitely know many football players who do not fit the stereotype that has been traditionally set for them. One person is in choir and loves doing shows, the other is really into science and politics. I feel like there aren't as many players on our team that fit that stereotype, which is interesting.
